As we have read about all the prophecies of the Old Testament, we have come to understand that the people then were looking for a fulfillment of the Millennium prophecies without suffering through the wrath of God. They were looking for a "King David/King Solomon" type Messiah who would destroy their enemies and bring about a complete earthly peace. They wanted a Messiah as described in Jeremiah 23:5-6. They certainly didn't want the Messiah in the form of Jesus.
Jeremiah
23:5
Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will raise to David a righteous
Branch, and a King shall reign and act wisely, and shall do judgment and
justice in the earth.
It
seems as if Scripture is absolutely FULL of the promises of God. The following
one is a promise of restoration of the righteous remnant in the millennium.
Jeremiah
23:4
I will place shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer
be afraid or terrified, nor will any be missing," declares the LORD.
In the millennium, there will be no “hired hands”, only “good shepherds” to
tend the “flock”.
God tells His people that a time is coming when the memory of being brought out
of Egypt will be overshadowed by being brought out of the nations where they
had been scattered (in the Millennium).
Under the heading SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP (Jeremiah 33:17-18) the Lord promises
that there will always be someone from David's line to sit on the throne of the
house of Israel. At this time, the Queen of England fulfills that role.
She is a descendant of King David. (According to the Genealogy
Chart of the Monarchs of Great Britain). The part about the Levites bringing
offerings and sacrifices will begin again (as a remembrance) when the
Millennium begins. At that time Jesus will sit on the throne with the prince
David at His side. Even though David was king but in the Millennium he
will be prince subservient to Jesus, who is King of Kings.
Jeremiah
33:20-21
"This is what the LORD says: 'If you can break my covenant with the day
and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their
appointed time, then my covenant with David my servant-- and my covenant with
the Levites who are priests ministering before me-- can be broken and David
will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne.
God
is saying, He keeps His promises of a descendant of David to be on the throne.
There will come a time however when day and night no longer come at their
appointed time (at least as we know it now). Conditions will change
significantly from what we have now into the millennium and conditions will
change significantly from the millennium into eternity.
In the millennium there will be a unique day.
Zechariah
14:7
It will be a unique day, without daytime or nighttime-- a day known to the
LORD. When evening comes, there will be light.
In
eternity, there will be no need for the night and day to come at their
appointed times.
Revelation
21:23
The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of
God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.
Under
the heading ISRAEL IN THE NEW KINGDOM (Jeremiah 33:23-26) God assures His
people that He has established His covenant with them and will not reject
Jacob's descendants. The covenant will always be in force as long as
there is day and night. This is reinforced several other times in the readings
for today in Jeremiah.
Another
glimpse into the millennium…
Jeremiah 31:34
No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know
the LORD,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to
the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive
their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."
Hebrews
8:11
No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know
the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the
greatest.
Habakkuk
2:14
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the
LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
Just imagine….ALL people will know the Lord in the millennium and the earth
will be filled with the knowledge of His glory. In addition, Satan will
not be around to tempt people to sin while he and his demons are locked away in
the abyss. (Revelation 20:1-3)
Revelation
22:20b
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
